When to go
As the home of the German Stock Exchange and many of Germany's most important and influential corporations, Frankfurt is considered by many to be the financial heart of Germany. It is a large, bustling city that is exceptionally fun to visit, and there are always many top travel deals to enjoy here. Frankfurt's downtown is chock full of fun things to see and do, and the city is brimming with museums and other delightful cultural attractions. Late May to early October is the best time to come to Frankfurt. The only major caveat about this rule is that you should avoid coming here during one of the city's many major trade shows. During those shows, the hotels here all book up and it is tremendously difficult to find vacation deals in general. Indeed, the majority of major travel websites concur that visiting Frankfurt is a lot of fun - as long as you don't inadvertently come here during a show. Also, December through February can be very cold so it's best to avoid the city during that time of year.
How to get there
As one of the busiest airports in Europe, the Frankfurt Airport always has plenty of cheap flights to choose from during all parts of the year. Thanks to the busy nature of that airport - and the fact that it is a major hub in its own right - it's always a breeze finding a flight on the time and date that you need one. Should you require a rental car during your visit, you can snag some really good car deals at one of the many rental agencies at Frankfurt Airport.
There are three major train stations in Frankfurt, so it's always a snap finding a train schedule that will accommodate your needs. Using the train and public transportation is a very savvy way to avoid the headache of driving in Frankfurt - and public transportation here is quite cheap, too. If you must drive, there are many autobahns that will get you into Frankfurt without incident - just try to avoid them during rush hour, or on snowy days.
Where to stay
In addition to many hotel deals, there are plenty of fine hotels to stay at in Frankfurt. One prime example is the Rocco Forte Villa Kennedy (Kennedyallee 70, Frankfurt), where the service is amazing and the rooms are downright opulent. On the other end of the price spectrum, the Aria Frankfurt Hotel (Eckenheimer Landstr. 28, Frankfurt) is a very nice place where you'll pay a cheap rate for nice accommodations. Finally, a pleasant compromise between the two extremes is the Concorde Hotel (Karlstr. 9, Frankfurt), which is at a convenient spot but also has reasonably cheap rates.
What to do
Movie buffs who visit Frankfurt are sure to delight in a visit to the Deutsches Filmmuseum - the German Film Museum. There are many displays about the art and history of film making to explore here, and you can learn a great deal about the trade as well. Another good museum to include on any tour of Frankfurt is the Naturmuseum Senckenberg, which is the natural history museum in Frankfurt and is a very compelling place to explore. Hundreds of intriguing things are on display here, and you can easily spend an entire afternoon roaming its halls.
Where to eat
There is no shortage of great places to eat at in Frankfurt. From the positively decadent to the very austere - and cheap - there are plenty of options. On the high end of the price scale, Emma Metzler (Schaumainkai 17, Frankfurt) offers an enticing mix of traditional local cuisine along with many international dishes. 7 Bello (Niddastrasse 82, Frankfurt) is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city and it surprisingly cheap as well. Finally, mouth watering pizzas and fresh, tasty salads are abundant at Pizzeria Charly Braun (Röderbergweg 121, Frankfurt), which is centrally located and very reasonably priced, too.
